Slippery hardwood stairs are a big concern for a lot of homeowners. New Era Flooring can put a non-slip finish on refinished or brand-new hardwood stairs. If you would rather have carpet underfoot, we arrange a carpet runner or fully carpeted stairs through the carpet installer we work with.

A non-slip finish for hardwood stairs

When we refinish a staircase or install new hardwood steps, we can finish the treads with a non-slip finish so they have more grip than a standard coat. You keep the look of the wood and get safer footing.

What finish do you use?

Our floor finishes are water-based products that dry fast. Ask us which product we plan to use on your stairs when we quote.

Carpet runners and carpeted stairs

If you prefer carpet on the stairs, the carpet installer we work with can fit a runner down the centre of hardwood steps or carpet the stairs fully. Planning it with the rest of the stair work means the steps are finished and ready before the carpet goes on.

Non-slip finish or runner?

A non-slip finish keeps the full hardwood look and is part of the refinishing. A runner adds softness and quiet underfoot while showing wood at the edges. Some people do both. We can talk it through when we see the stairs. If the steps need more than a new finish, see stair rebuilds and railings.

Clear the rooms your way

Move the furniture yourself, or ask us to book the professional movers we work with. They photograph each room, move everything to another room, the driveway or a storage pod, and put it back where it was. Moving is optional and priced separately.

We do the work

Floors, carpets and stairs that are staying can be covered while we work. If the job needs an electrician or a plumber, we bring in trades we work with, or work alongside yours.

Clean up and move back in

We tidy and vacuum the work area when we finish. If you want the whole home cleaned before you settle back in, ask about a deep clean, priced separately.

Each step beyond the flooring work is optional and quoted on its own.
