What can be repaired without replacing the floor?

Most repair calls start with one problem area: boards that are cracked, stained, lifting or worn through. We look at the damaged boards and the subfloor under them, replace or repair what needs it and leave the rest of the floor alone.

Sometimes the damage points to a bigger problem, such as a subfloor that moves underfoot. If so, we show you what the fix involves before you decide. The answer may be a subfloor repair first, or refinishing the whole room instead of patching it.

Tying new hardwood into an existing floor

When a wall comes out, a room is added or tile is removed, new hardwood often has to meet the floor that is already there. We weave the new boards into the old ones so the join follows the board pattern, then sand and refinish across the area so old and new take the same finish.

We have removed tile, tied new hardwood into the existing floor and carried it straight through, so the tile was gone altogether.

How close can a stain match get?

Stain matching works on many floors, but it has limits. Older boards have aged under daylight and years of finish, and new boards take stain differently. We look at your floor and tell you how close the match can get before the finish goes on.

If a closer match needs more of the room refinished, we price both options so you can choose.

Repair the damage or refinish the whole room?

A repair makes sense when the damage is limited and the rest of the floor is in good shape. Refinishing the whole room makes sense when the finish is worn everywhere or a repair would stand out against the rest. Many jobs are both: repair the damaged boards, then sand and refinish the room so everything matches.

Clear the rooms your way

Move the furniture yourself, or ask us to book the professional movers we work with. They photograph each room, move everything to another room, the driveway or a storage pod, and put it back where it was. Moving is optional and priced separately.

We do the work

Floors, carpets and stairs that are staying can be covered while we work. If the job needs an electrician or a plumber, we bring in trades we work with, or work alongside yours.

Clean up and move back in

We tidy and vacuum the work area when we finish. If you want the whole home cleaned before you settle back in, ask about a deep clean, priced separately.
