Hardwood Sanding & Refinishing In Ottawa

Plan The Work Around Your Home

If you want to work with your existing hardwood, start by looking at what the floor needs. New Era Flooring provides sanding and refinishing, localized repairs and stain-matching work. We can assess a specific area or discuss refinishing as part of a larger change to the room.

Plan Repairs And Colour Together

A damaged section or a change between old and new flooring may call for more than a new finish. We can assess repairs, tie new hardwood into an existing floor and discuss refinishing the connected areas. Stain matching has limits, so the existing material and the result you want need to be considered together rather than promising an invisible match.

Localized Floor Repairs

You may only need help with one area of the floor. New Era can assess localized floor repairs on hardwood or other flooring and discuss the surrounding subfloor work. We can also look at how a repair relates to the existing flooring before deciding whether wider refinishing or replacement needs to be considered.

Consider The Stairs And Railings

If the project includes a staircase, we can discuss refinishing and coordinating it with the flooring. Existing railing components may be reused and refinished off-site, or replaced as part of the agreed stair work. The right scope depends on what is already there and what you want to change. Refinished stairs can also get a non-slip stair finish for more grip.

Water-Based Finishes

The finishes we use for sanding and refinishing are low-VOC, water-based products. They dry fast and wear well. Ask us which product we plan to use on your floor when we quote.

Plan Preparation And Cleanup

We can also help plan how the work area will be cleared and cleaned. Professional moving and additional post-job cleaning can be arranged as optional services with separate costs. Tell us what you will handle yourself so those arrangements match the work you actually need.

Floor, Carpet And Stair Protection

Ask about protection for floors, carpets and stairs while work is taking place. Include the areas you want covered when discussing the job so floor protection can be considered alongside the installation or repair work.

Work-Area Cleanup

We tidy and vacuum the flooring work area at the end of the job. If you want a more extensive clean of the home, ask about a separate post-construction or deep-cleaning arrangement. The rooms, surfaces and additional cost should be discussed as their own scope.

Hardwood Sanding & Refinishing Questions

Can You Assess My Existing Hardwood?

Start by looking at what the floor needs. Sanding and refinishing, localized repairs and stain-matching work can be discussed for a specific area, or as part of a larger change to the room.

Can You Look At A Repair In Just One Area?

New Era can look at how a repair relates to the existing flooring, then discuss whether wider refinishing or replacement needs to be considered. Localized hardwood or other flooring repairs can be assessed with the surrounding subfloor work.

Can A Stain Match Be Made Invisible?

No, and we will not promise an invisible match. Stain matching has limits. The existing material and the result you want need to be considered together.

Can You Join New Hardwood To An Existing Floor?

When a project joins new hardwood to an existing floor, we can assess the tie-in and refinishing work together. We can also discuss stain matching for localized repairs. Matching has limits, so the existing material and the areas being changed need to be considered for each job.

Can Stairs And Railings Be Part Of The Project?

Yes. Where the project includes a staircase, the refinishing can be coordinated with the flooring. Railing components may be reused and refinished off-site, or replaced as part of the agreed stair work, depending on what is already there.

Can Refinished Stairs Have A Non-Slip Finish?

Yes. When stairs are refinished, or new hardwood steps are installed, we can apply a non-slip finish so the treads have more grip. See non-slip stair finishes and runners.

Is Furniture Moving Included?

If moving the furniture is the difficult part, ask about arranging professional movers to clear the work area and put items back afterwards. You can also handle the room clearance yourself. Moving is optional and has a separate cost; it is not automatically included in the flooring work.

Can Floors, Carpets And Stairs Be Protected During The Work?

Yes. Include the areas you want covered when you discuss the job, so protection for floors, carpets and stairs is considered alongside the installation or repair work while it is taking place.

What Cleanup Is Included, And What Is Separate?

At the end of the job we tidy and vacuum the flooring work area. A more extensive clean of the home is a separate post-construction or deep-cleaning arrangement, with its own rooms, surfaces and additional cost to discuss.
